Metric: Body weight in kilograms divided by the square of height in meters: BMI = kg / m²
US Customary: Body weight in pounds multiplied by 703, divided by the square of height in inches: BMI = 703 × lb / in²

The result is rounded to one decimal place and matched against standard adult screening intervals.
